aBOUT CITY OF REFUGE MINISTRIES
Founders Johnbull and Stacy Omorefe are a light of god to have founded City of Refuge Ministries (CORM) back in 2006. This orphanage exists to provide holistic restoration for children who have been liberated from exploitation, abuse, or trafficking.
They aim to prevent exploitation at its roots by empowering individuals and communities to eradicate child slavery and achieve personal and community goals. The City of Refuge Children's Village is a place where children who have been orphaned, abandoned and rescued from slavery can call home.
City of Refuge Ministries is working to not only rescue children out of child slavery but also to prevent children from being sold. We are doing this by empowering single mothers who are vulnerable to selling their children.
TRip Details
This is a missionary trip is to an orphanage in Ghana Accra: City of Refuge Ministries. This orphanage has done tremendous work to rescue children from slavery, (doing the work of a fishermen all day long in the area of Lake Volta, Ghana), who are secluded from going to school and being with their families. Usually, the uneducated mothers sell their children to the so called “Masters”, and these men put the children into a hazard, dangerous environment where the polluted water ends up bringing diseases to these victims.
During our time here, we will serve not only at City of Refuge Ministries with daily activities and duties, but also at their Faith Roots International Academy with in-class activities, tutoring and sports. This academy started off just as a home school for the children of City of Refuge Ministries but later in September of 2011 it was officially opened to the public with over 100 community children in attendance.
Dates for this trip were originally from July 20th to July 31st 2020. Due to COVID-19 we are moving our trip to 2021 - specific dates still TBD.
